  7. The PCSS-8I (Intelligent Multi-Channel serial card) is the most powerful
  8. PC-compatible serial card that GTEK has offered to date. It has eight separate
  9. RS-232 channels for input and output per card. All queuing of data and status
  10. and uart interrupts is handled by the coprocessor, thereby placing no
  11. processing load on your computer. True concurrent processing dramatically
  12. increases computer throughput. A device driver is included which provides DOS
  13. compatibility through BIOS Int 14H and expands Int 14H to handle up to 130
  14. channels. The enhanced BIOS INT14H device driver allows easy application
  15. program interface and is supplied with an interface to high-level compiled
  16. languages such as Basic, Pascal, ADA, C, and FORTRAN. Examples with source code
  17. provide programming models to demonstrate ease of use with the INT14H driver.
  18. Utilities are provided which allow mapping intelligent channels to standard
  19. COM1: through COM4: channels and to initialize all of the intelligent channels
  20. at boot time. Compatibility is so complete that you can even use the DOS MODE
  21. command to set up channels. Each card occupies on four I/O addresses. This
  22. address may be changed to allow multiple PCSS-8I's. You can access the card
  23. directly or for DOS compatibility, through BIOS Int 14H. Whichever way you go,
  24. all eight channels are always interrupt driven on transmit and receive with
  25. automatic handshaking available using either CTS/DTR or XON/XOFF. You can have
  26. as many PCSS-8Is as you have slots for in your computer. The hardware interface
  27. to the PCSS-8I is done with standard six conductor telephone type plugs. This
  28. frees up the back panel of your computer and allows all 8 channels to come out
  29. of one slot on the back of the computer. Cables, plugs and DB25 connectors are
  30. available from GTEK also. Signals supported are TXD, RXD, DTR, CTS, CD and GND.
  31. What's more, this board is smart enough to be used ``standalone.'' Connect the
  32. PCSS-8I to a power supply with the proper coprocessor firmware and it will run
  33. standalone. In this mode the PC interface can be used as parallel I/O.
